How to check that a pumper is licensed and bonded
OAC 252:645-1-3(a) says any person operating a business that pumps, transports, or disposes of septage shall obtain an annual license from the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality. The license is issued to the owner, president, or designated officer of the business. DEQ's septage pumpers and transporters page says Oklahoma law requires a license for anyone in the business of pumping, hauling, or disposing of domestic septage from septic tanks, holding tanks, chemical toilets, or similar tanks. That page says licenses are renewed by a renewal application each year on or before January 31, and that the rules sit in Chapter 645.
A person who drives a pumping vehicle for a licensed business has to meet that subchapter within 45 days of employment (OAC 252:645-1-3(b)). An applicant for an initial license has to complete two hours of DEQ training and pass an exam with a score of at least 70 percent (OAC 252:645-1-3(e)). Licenses and driver certifications expire on January 31 after the year of issue (OAC 252:645-1-3(g)). The same rule says a renewal application for an unexpired license is due by January 15 (OAC 252:645-1-3(h)). Use the published DEQ septage list this directory already checks, not the calendar alone.
The bond is two official sentences, and they do not name the same principal. OAC 252:645-1-6(f) requires a surety bond of $25,000, names the Licensee as principal and DEQ as obligee, and says the bond must be in effect before DEQ grants the license. DEQ's initial certification page for a septage pumper and transporter licensee asks for a surety bond of $25,000 listing the business, not the Licensee, as principal and DEQ as obligee, and it requires an inspection of each vehicle. That bond is not a price for pumping a tank. This directory does not price jobs and does not keep bond certificates. Ask the company for its current license and whether the bond is still in effect. See how we check the list.
What to ask before you book
Ask any company whether it services aerobic systems before you book. An aerobic system still has a trash tank. Pumping that tank is a different job from repairing an aerator or a spray head. Say whether the system is conventional, aerobic, or you are not sure. Read aerobic versus conventional pumping and aerobic trash tank pumping.
Say the street, not only the mailing city on the card. Midwest City, Moore, and Del City are not separate roster mailing cities. Start with septic pumping in Oklahoma City, then confirm the address. For a routine tank, start with residential septic pumping.
Say whether this is a routine pump-out or a backup. If sewage is in the house, stop adding water, then call a listed company. The steps are in what to do first in a septic backup. Many Oklahoma households pump every three to five years. That is a common starting point on the how often to pump guide, not a rule for every tank.
Ask what is included and where the waste is hauled. Of the 227 records, 48 are tagged portable-toilet names, including 2 of the 9 Oklahoma City records. A portable-toilet name can still pump a house tank. Ask. The difference is spelled out in portable toilets versus house tanks. More call questions are in what to ask before you book.
This directory does not book the job, does not price jobs, and does not publish reviews or response times. A roster match is a starting point for a call.
